Chapter 1
Predictions: I predict that George and Lennie will go to the new ranch and be there for a while and then get kicked out because of something Lennie does. Once they are out of the ranch they have no place to go and starve and die.
Clarify: "George-- why ain't we goin' on to the ranch and get some supper? They got supper at the ranch". pg. 7 In the old days instead of calling dinner dinner. They would call supper dinner, and lunch dinner. So it would go: breakfast-dinner-supper.
Try: Whats wrong with Lennie? Why isn't he the brightest?
Use: In psychology we are training mice, so Lennie and I both like rats.
Summary: In this chapter I learn who the two main characters are, Lennie and George. George is the leader and bosses Lennie around, he has the brain. Lennie is the strong one, and he isn't so bright so he listens to George no matter what, well he tries to. George and Lennie leave the ranch, where they were working to work at a different one. On the way to the other ranch they stop by a lake for a night. In this chapter we discover George and Lennie's plan on getting enough money for their own land and harvest on it and have lost of animals. We also discover the fascination Lennie has with rats. He

Chapter 2
Predictions: I predict that Curley is going to pick a fight with Lennie. This fight is going to get George and Lennie get kicked out. I also think Lennie with get more interested in Curley's wife.
Clarify: "Meant to ask you, Slim-- how's your b*tch? I seen she wasn't under your wagon thing morning". pg 35 They are using the word in the right term (female dog). Unlike how we use it today.
Try: Why doesn't Curley like Lennie? Is it because he's bigger than him?
Use: When Curly picks a fight on Lennie for no reason. It's like he wants to see him get mad. Like when my sisters pick fights with me.
Summary: In this chapter George and Lennie get to the ranch. Once they get all settled in they meet a couple of new characters. Curely he's the owners son Curley doesn't like Lennie. Slim the jerkline skinner, he was another worker. Curley's wife which is kind-of a hoochie, she flirts with all the men. George doesn't like the conflict between Curley and Lennie, George saids he's going to beat him up if he keeps messing with Lennie. Lennie doesn't want to be on the ranch anymore, and tries to convince George to run away and go to another ranch.

Chapter 3
Predictions: In this chapter I predict that Curly is going to pick a fight with someone, and that Curly's wife is going to cheat on Curley.
Clarify: How we touch girls is now different then how we used to. Back then it was horrible to even lay a finger on her. We find out because in the part where we learn that Lennie was touching a girls dress, she completely freaks out.
Try: Why is Curley always picking a fight with someone?
Use: When Lennie broke Curley's it reminds me of a time where I bit my sisters hand and left bruises on her.
Summary: In this chapter Candy's dog got shot. Lennie has found something new to pet, the puppies. Curley started to beat on Lennie, even though Lennie didn't want to hurt him he grab Curley's hand and didn't let go. Curley was questioning Slim about his wife, like Slim was sneaking around and seeing him.

Chapter 4
Prediction: I predict in this chapter that Lennie is going to get in more trouble about the puppies. I also predict that Curely is going to pick on Lennie again.
Clarify: In the olden days black people didn't have the rights that white people did. So that's why Crooks had to live in the barn instead of the bunk house. He made his own room and slept on hay he gathered up. You would never see that now of days.
Try: Why is Crook so mad that Lennie wanted to be friends?
Use: When Crook was telling everyone that they shouldn't be in his room reminded me of when I'm in my room and my sisters barge in. I get very angry and tell them to get out and of course they don't listen.
Summary: Lennie goes into Crooks room trying to be nice while the others (all but Slim) go to town. Crooks is saying 'What if George doesn't come back to you" to Lennie and freaked him out. Curely's wife comes in and flirts with the guys, when they tell her to leave she gets mad and storms off.

Chapter 5
Prediction: Curely's wife is going to gete Lennie in trouble some how. Which will lead to Lennie kicked out. But I don't think George will leave with Lennie.
Clarify: Everyone is so against to talk to Curely's wife not only because she's a flirt but that just isn't what you did in the olden days. You would never talk to a mans wife without him there, and a women wouldn't talk unless spoken to.
Try: Why didn't she just leave Lennie alone?
Use: When Lennie wasn't letting go of Curely's wife's hair reminded me of when my sisters pull my hair and won't let go for the life of them.
Summary: Lennie is petting a pup and kills it because the pup was about to bite him so he smacked the pup and killed it. Then Curely's wife comes in and starts to talk to Lennie and Lennie keeps saying that he isn't suppose to talk to her but she insists. Curely's wife told Lennie to touch her hair because he likes to touch soft things. Then she starts screaming to stop Lennie gets scared and tries to get her to stop so he holds her throat, and she dies. Candy and George found her dead but George told him to act like they found her dead as he was coming out of the bunk house. When the guys tell the other guys Curely is ordering everyone to try and kill Lennie.

Chapter 6
Prediction: Curely is going to get to Lennie before George is. I predict Lennie is going to die, and so will George by Curely.
Clarify:
Try: WHY WOULD GEORGE KILL LENNIE?
Use: Lennie was gulable and was betrayed by his best friend. Like I was ounce.
Summary: George stole Carrols luger and finds Lennie by the river where he told him to meet him. George is talking about what they are going to do when they get the money. In the middle of it George put the gun to the back of Lennie's head and shots him.

Characters:
Themes:
Friendship- Through out the story you see how rare friendship with men are. The men on the farm would always say "you never see two men traveling around together." George and Lennie were really close. George cared so much for Lennie he killed Lennie for his own good.
Impossible American Dream- Through out the whole story you know the dream of George and Lennie was to have a farm. So they had land of their own, animals, and crops of their own. Also another impossible dream was Curely's wife. She wanted to be a famous movie star.
Symbol:
Lennie's Pup- Throughout the whole book he is killing mice because of his strength, because he's not aware of it. Lennie soon is like the pup, killed by someone that only wants good for him.
Tones:
Over all tone: Sadness
The over all tone to me that I noticed was sadness, because theres allot of death. Like when George had to kill his bestfriend, Lennie. George doesn't kill Lennie out of anger but out of their friendship because he knew that Curely and the other men would do worst. Also when Candy's dog is killed by Crooks, Candy couldn't wrap his head around that the dog was sick and needed to die. Also they were living in the great depression and of course that's sad.
Another Tone: Happiness
There was only happiness when the men were fantasizing about their future. Like whenever Lennie was sad he would ask George to tell him about the farm they will have.
Moods:
Sadness- It made me sad when the dog is killed and Candy cries and is trying to be a man so he lets no one see. Also it makes me really sad to see people in the book to treat Lennie like he's such a bad guy.
Anger- It makes me really angry how Curely's wife talks to Crook in his room, even though that's how they were treated back then it was wrong. Crook did nothing wrong but say he wanted people out of his room. The other part that made me angry at first was when George shots Lennie.
My Point of View:
"Of Mice and Men" is a really good book. Even though it's a good book I would never read it again. It has a good meaning, but the ending was horrible to me. I think it's nice of George to think about Lennie and kind of saves Lennie. I think George felt trap with having to help Lennie all the time. I would certainly wouldn't kill Lennie, I would help him run away or something.
Plot Line:
Rising Action- There are many but here are main ones.
Falling Action- The boys looking for Lennie to hurt him. Which makes George find him first to kill him so he doesn't suffer as much.
- George- Is a static protagonist throughout the story because he doesn't really change throughout the book. You also know what he exactly looks like. "The first man was small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes amd sharp, strong features." page 2. George is a static character because he stays the same throughout the book.
- Lennie- Is also a round static protagonist in the story because you know a exact description of him. "Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man, shapeless face, with large, pale eyes, with wide sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way bear drags their paws." page 2 Lennie is static because he stays the same throughout the book.
- Curely- Is a round static antagonist throughout the story because you know how he exactly looks to. "At that moment a young man came into the bunkhouse; a thin young man with a brown face, with brown eyes and a head of curled hair." page 25 He's an antagonist because he's always picking a fight with Lennie. Like in the scene where George and Lennie first meet Curely. He stayic because he doesn't change in the book.
- Curely's wife- Is also a flat static antagonist in the story because you don't know much about her, you don't even know her name. She's an antagonist because she's always flirting with Lennie, trying to make him do bad things. She's static because she's the same throughout the book.
- Slim- Is a flat static because you don't know much about and he stays the same.
- Candy- Is a flat static because you don't know much about him and he stays the same.
- Crooks- Is a flat static because you don't know much about him and he stays the same.
